Layo Teraga
The Layo Teraga Cooperative, founded in 1976 in Uraga, Ethiopia, is made up of 1,841 smallholder farmers who grow coffee in semi-forested home gardens. At elevations reaching over 2,300 meters, the cooperative has developed a reputation for producing exceptional washed coffees, particularly since building its ‘Site 2’ washing station in 2011. In 2022, Layo Teraga began exporting directly through Crop to Cup, allowing them to pay farmers nearly triple the standard rate and reinvest in vital community projects like roads, electricity, schools, and water systems. Their efforts not only improve quality of life but also ensure the consistent production of high-quality coffee. This year’s offering showcases a delicate washed Ethiopian cup with notes of herbal strawberry basil, delicate lady grey tea, and key lime pie.
