We’re excited to announce that we have a new offering from the Yellow Diamond Estate in the Western Rift Valley of Kenya. So many people were bummed to see Yellow Diamond AA go last year, so we’re happy to offer another coffee from this wonderful estate. Habil Olaka moved his family to Western Kenya to escape city life and return to his agricultural roots. After hearing all the enthusiasm surrounding Kenyan coffee from neighbors and friends, Habil and his family switched their focus from farming corn, chickens, flowers, and honey to coffee production. This switch was a welcome change to the Olaka family as they’d been struggling both with theft and soil fertility issues in their present farming endeavors. Habil hired top agronomists to help improve their processing methods and develop an integrated approach to coffee farming. Yellow Diamond Estate uses beekeeping to promote pollination and composts their coffee husks to help fertilize and amend the soil. They have been able to expand their operations, creating jobs for local residents, and even providing coffee training to further bolster the local economy and uplift their community. Habil named the estate “Yellow Diamond” because it represents something rare and valuable. To him, that means family, land, and what they can create together. Even in the short time that we have been brewing and tasting this coffee, it has become a fast favorite! We have been tasting notes of Peach Rings, Honey, and Black Tea. It is a dynamic, rich cup that we can’t wait for you to try.
